Dr. Nemani is a combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic fellowship trained spine surgeon. He has advanced training in all aspects of spine surgery, with a special interest and expertise in disorders of the cervical spine and in patients with spinal deformities.

Dr. Nemani was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana. He attended Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He then received his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine where he was awarded membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While at UCSF, he also completed a PhD in Neuroscience where he discovered a new mechanism by which nerve signaling is modulated with implications for neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Nemani then completed his internship and residency at Cornell University/Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, ranked by US News and World Report and Doximity as the #1 orthopaedic hospital and residency training program in the country. During his residency, Dr. Nemani was awarded the Andrew Swanson Alumni Traveling fellowship and operated with leading spine surgeons throughout Japan. He also was awarded the Thomas P. Sculco award given by the nurses and the operating room staff to the graduating resident who best exemplifies professionalism, compassion, and interdisciplinary collaboration for patient care. After his residency training, he completed a combined neurosurgical / orthopaedic spine surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, widely considered one of the top spine fellowships in the country, with additional time at Columbia University.

Dr. Nemani believes in a comprehensive approach to patient care and works with all members of the medical team to treat spinal problems conservatively before considering an operation. If surgery is necessary, he will perform spine surgery utilizing the most safe and effective techniques in a manner that is tailored for each individual patient.

Dr. Nemani has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed research articles in many of the top journals in spine surgery and neuroscience, including Spine, The Spine Journal,Neurosurgery, Neuron, and the Journal of Neuroscience. He has presented over 35 scientific studies at national and international conferences, and written more than 15 book chapters on various topics in spine surgery. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), AO Spine, and the North American Spine Society (NASS). He also volunteers his time as a spine surgeon in Ghana, where he has surgically treated some of the most rare and complex spinal deformities in both pediatric and adult patients.
